Based in Westminster Colorado, this incredible team is looking for a skilled  Associate Spacecraft Navigation Engineer to support a growing list of projects and missions to the Moon, Mars, asteroids, and beyond. The ideal candidate will have experience in optical navigation, eiother with onboard imaging and/or LIDAR processing. Job Purpose:   
This position will support development of future navigation infrastructure at the Moon through the Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System (CAPS) as well as proposals and flight projects sending missions to the Moon, Mars, and elsewhere in the solar system and beyond. We are looking for a person to conduct detailed analyses related to spacecraft navigation and support other components of mission design and technology development including maturation of next generation onboard automated navigation for Lunar and deep space missions. Responsibilities include the development of navigation technology and software. Additionally, this position will support software evaluation, refinement, and development efforts for flight and ground software for spacecraft navigation. Navigation analyses that will be supported and/or directed include single spacecraft and constellations in Earth orbit, transfers to lunar orbit and/or the surface, as well as deep space missions to Mars and elsewhere. This person should be prepared to support spaceflight operations, new technology conceptualization, business development efforts, and general contributions to company technical and strategic planning. Previous experience developing spacecraft navigation software, evaluating new estimation formulations, and a demonstrated ability to improve on legacy approaches to spacecraft navigation would be an advantage. This position will contribute to the ongoing CAPSTONE mission operating in a Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO), the development of the Oracle mission to provide space situational awareness at the Moon for the Air Force Research Lab, the maturation of systems to support lunar landings, and the deployment of infrastructure to enable commercial, civil, and national security missions to the Moon. 

The ideal candidate for this role will have a detailed fundamental understanding of estimation and the state-of-the-art in terms of tools and approaches. This person will work with a highly dynamic and fast-paced team, which values passion and hard work. This position will support multiple projects and programs and will include a high degree of diversity in the tasks required. This position is based out of our primary engineering office in Westminster, Colorado.

 

Responsibilities:

This position will contribute to the navigation functions of the company

  • Navigation technology and software development
    • Cislunar Autonomous Position System (flight software development)
    • Ground software development and enhancement (radiometric, optical, passive-RF, etc)
  • Navigation analyses for flight missions in development and proposed
    • Earth orbit - constellations and others
    • Lunar transfers (traditional and low energy) and landing
    • Deep space missions to Venus, Mars, and elsewhere
  • Navigation operations support
  • New technologies and business efforts
  • General contribution to company technical and strategic planning and execution
  • Support of internal development and assessment of state-of-the-art
  • Interface with government and commercial customers

Required Skills and Experience:

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering with course work or experience in technical emphasis in orbital mechanics, mission design, estimation theory, navigation filter design and implementation, constellation design and navigation systems architectures.
  • 0 - 3 years’ experience in actual mission implementation of flight and ground system navigation architectures with an emphasis on deep space systems preferred.
  • Experience in flight and ground software development with a focus on navigation systems, navigation sensor requirements and designs, and ground system support requirements preferred.
  • Experience with orbit analysis tools, i.e., GMAT, OREKIT, STK, Freeflyer, Copernicus
  • Experience with orbit estimation tools, i.e., MONTE, RTGx, ODTK

 Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base Salary Range – $80,000 - $92,000 based on role, employee experience, and location*
